Her obsession with Sarah being Trans is fetishizing and unhealthy, and Sarah is lapping it up. This is not a friendship- a friendship is not "one person idolizing the other", but that's what they've got. I'm sure Sarah doesn't wish Molly ill, but by allowing Molly to worship her- she's doing Molly no favors. This is not sustainable. Either Sarah is going to realize that Molly's got a very unhealthy view of her, or Molly will realize that it's a very one-sided relationship. They're kids. Even adults would have a hard time addressing this in a mature, healthy way that ends in them staying friends, this is likely going to end badly.

If Sarah realizes that Molly's trans-views aren't good, then Molly may feel rejected and that Sarah is "just jealous" and one of THOSE people and she never should have trusted her. If Molly realizes the friendship is one-sided, she'll feel taken advantage of by Sarah,  realize that Sarah is one of THOSE people and that she never should have trusted her. Maybe "betray" is the wrong word, but this relationship is setting up some VERY badly hurt feelings on both sides.

This is going to take a very delicate touch, but I think Lucy can handle it.

This hits what I was getting right on the head.  In one way, I hope you/re (we're) wrong (about the first part) and in another I hope you're right (about Lucy.)  For my part, at the risk of sounding a little hero-worshipy myself, I'm just glad it's Christine writing it, and can't wait to see where it goes and how we gets there!
